Kattarans

One of my hundreds of original alien races.

Kattarans are a feline-humanoid race inhabiting the planet Kattarr-Von.  The planet is very Earth like, only a bit warmer, even on the poles, mostly covered in jungle/forest terrain with some mountainous regions and the occasional desert-scape. 

They are most likely related to some of the other feline races commonly seen around the galaxy, but unique in their own ways.

They have two fingers and opposable thumbs, two toes and a dewclaw.  Talons on each digit are handy for cutting, digging, defense and precision detail work.  The dewclaws excrete a mild toxin which can leave most organic species to be temporarily paralyzed or in a state of seizure. 

They subsist on a mainly vegetarian diet, killing non-sentient creatures only for defensive purposes or to use pelts, bones or bodily fluids for medicinal purposes.

Females of the species have a set of fur covered wings.  The exact reason for this is not known, however it is known that most of their natural enemies and predators dwell on the surface of Kattarr-Von.  Kattaran dwellings are commonly built near cliffs, large forests or have enormous towers built onto them.  The custom being for young Kattarans to be kept and nurtured in a nursery high about the ground.  The female's wings allow her the quickest and easiest access to the children for care and protection while the males generally distract and combat the threat. 

However, the males can also easily scale trees and walls if need be, as the female is also quite formidable in battle.

Kattarans are a tribal society, generally a peaceful people and are a space-faring race.  Highly technologically advanced and visitors are welcome and trades are frequently made with other races, both community-wide and on a personal, individual scale.

However, like all races in the galaxy, there are good, bad and ugly sides to this race.
